It starts with a cough, then comes the scream: “I hate my life.” Trisha Paytas’s words are set to a reggae-pop beat in the 2017 song “I Hate My Life”. Paris Hilton’s “Stars Are Blind” (2006) comes to mind. But apart from the soundscape, the contrast between the songs is stark. In the music video, Hilton is tumbling around with her lover on a sandy white beach while Paytas is washing paper plates in her kitchen.
Political Pessimism
This summer, I did a study on political pessimism in Swedish political discourse for Dagens Nyheter. It was a collaboration between Jussi Karlgren at Gavagai, Lovisa Bergström at Dagens Nyheter and myself where we made an attempt to quantify tonality in political speeches.
The Written Work Corpus
The written work corpus is a manually created data set of named occurrences of written works (books) in Swedish news texts. It’s intended use is for named-entity recognition (NER) tasks. The data set consists of 175 articles from the culture section of Dagens Nyheter (DN Kultur).
Omlackering av en Volvo V70 (1999)
Vi har en Volvo V70 från 1999. Det är en bra bil. Den har gått nästan 30000 mil. Ursprungligen var den vinröd, klarlackad i metallic. Men ett målerifel från fabrik har orsakat klarlackssläpp och rostfläckar. Svenska vintrars salta obarmhärtighet och det stora, löpande underhållsarbete som vi redan plöjt ner i denna bil gjorde att vi i höstas bestämde oss för att även unna den en omlackering.
